Greek Hamburgers: Light but Hearty Dinner: Recipe

After a significant eating weekend, it's time for light and hearty. I've created this as a way to invigorate both the mundane burger and the lonely salad.

Greek Hamburgers

1 1/4 lb. chopped meat
1 egg
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
3 Tbls. ground Cumin
1/2 Tsp. ground Turmeric
1/4 Tsp. ground Red Pepper
1/4 tsp. ground Savory
1/2 tsp. dried Oregano

Mix all together and form into about 4-5 burger patties. Set on the broiler pan (or for the BBQ). Broil burgers about 4-5 minutes per side for medium rare.
Toast 5 large pita bread pockets

1/2 bag of mixed salad greens
1/4 cup feta cheese, crumbled
1/4 cup pitted Kalamata Olives
3/4 cucumber, peeled, halved long-wise and sliced
1 red pepper, chopped
1 yellow pepper, chopped
1 small tomato, seeded and chopped

Mix salad ingredients together and toss well.

In a separate bowl mix: 3 Tbls. dried Oregano with 1/3 cup. olive oil and 4 Tbls. red wine vinegar. Whisk well and pour over the salad; toss well.

Serve: Slice pita in half cross-wise and fill with salad and top with a burger. Enjoy.
